Will Smith, the renowned actor of the 2008 superhero film “Hancock,” has dropped hints about a possible sequel, nearly two decades after the original movie’s release.
In a recent appearance on xQc’s Twitch live stream, the Academy Award-winning actor shared some intriguing details about the upcoming project.
During the live stream, Smith revealed an exciting tidbit. “There’s a really captivating ‘Hancock 2’ concept,” he said. “We haven’t discussed it yet, but I’ll give you a sneak peek – Zendaya is being considered for a role in ‘Hancock 2.”
The 2008 film “Hancock” showcased Smith as a forgetful, alcoholic superhero, grappling with the aftermath he leaves in his wake while saving lives in Los Angeles. After rescuing a couple (played by Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron), they collaborate with him to enhance his public persona and recover his forgotten past.
Directed by Peter Berg and produced by Sony, “Hancock” went on to become a global success, grossing over $600 million worldwide on a $150 million production budget. The script was penned by Vy Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan, the creator of “Breaking Bad.” Berg later directed successful films like “Deepwater Horizon” and “Patriots Day” starring Mark Wahlberg.
Although Sony has not yet commented on the sequel plans, this isn’t the first time a “Hancock” sequel has been speculated. In 2009, Berg announced to MTV News that “everyone would return for a sequel.” In 2020, Charlize Theron stated that discussions had slowed over the years following the movie’s release, but she would “jump at the chance” if offered.
Recently, Smith bagged an Academy Award for “King Richard.” In the same ceremony, he made headlines for slapping comedian Chris Rock. On the other hand, Zendaya has been recognized with two Emmys for her role as Rue in the HBO series “Euphoria,” with the production for its third season commencing earlier this year.
