Yaeji Releases New Single ‘booboo’
Yaeji has returned with her first new music of 2024 with the single ‘booboo’. The New York City-based artist, who took a break from the club scene to work on her 2023 debut album, ‘With A Hammer’, is back on the dancefloor with this latest release.
Exploring ‘booboo’
‘booboo’ is filled with bouncing bass and clearly pays homage to her 2017 fan-favourite track ‘Raingurl’. In the song, Yaeji sings: “You know the one time I wrote a banger that goes like,” before a sample of the catchy chorus from ‘Raingurl’ kicks in.
Yaeji’s Reflections
Reflecting on the track, Yaeji shares: “I think with anything – a little breathing room, a little break – distance makes the heart grow fonder. Following the overwhelming attention that ‘Raingurl’ received, I took a hiatus from clubbing, dance music, and the underground scene. However, this break allowed me to gain a fresh perspective and a deeper appreciation for it all.”
Yaeji further adds, “This year marks the 10-year anniversary of many of the parties my friends and I used to attend, so the release of ‘booboo’ now feels like a full circle moment. Being able to rejoin my closest friends in the club scene, after witnessing them grow as DJs and start their own labels, has been incredibly rewarding.”
Upcoming Performances
Last year, Yaeji released her highly anticipated debut album, ‘With A Hammer’, in April, followed by the single ‘Easy Breezy’ in November. Drawing influences from ‘booboo’, ‘Easy Breezy’ sees Yaeji reflecting on her previous work and incorporating lyrics from songs like ‘Done (Let’s Get It)’ and ‘29’.
This summer, Yaeji is scheduled to perform at the UK’s Lost Village Festival and Field Day, followed by appearances at Montreal’s Festival Palomosa, New York’s Outline Festival, and Club To Club Festival in Turin, Italy.
