The trial for one of the men accused of murdering Young Dolph in 2021 is currently ongoing, with the jury being presented with video evidence of the rapper’s final moments before the fatal ambush.
Jury Is Shown Video of Dolph’s Final Moments
Day 1 of the Young Dolph murder trial against accused killer Justin Johnson commenced in a Memphis court on Monday (Sept. 23). Following opening statements, the jury was shown surveillance footage capturing the last moments of the late rapper’s life. The video, available at the 2:39:00 timestamp below, depicts Dolph and his brother Marcus exiting Dolph’s Corvette and entering Makeda’s Homemade Cookies on Nov. 17, 2021. Inside the store, Dolph is seen talking on his cell phone while selecting confections.
The camera then shifts to an employee ringing up Dolph’s purchase. As she operates the cash register, she glances up towards the front of the store. Shortly after, she hurries to the back of the cookie shop. When the camera returns, Dolph and his brother are no longer visible. The clip does not include any audio.
The outside perspective of this moment was shared on social media following Dolph’s passing. It shows two individuals, identified by the police as Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith, exiting a white Mercedes Benz armed with firearms and firing into the cookie shop. Dolph sustained 22 gunshot wounds, as indicated by his autopsy report.
Yo Gotti’s Late Brother Accused of Putting Hit on Young Dolph
A significant revelation from the recent hearing was prosecutor Paul Hagerman’s claim that Yo Gotti’s deceased brother, Big Jook, placed a $100,000 bounty on Dolph’s life due to an ongoing feud between Gotti’s CMG label and Dolph’s Paper Route Empire.
“Big Jook, the individual I previously mentioned as the second in command at CMG,” Hagerman stated. “He has issued a hit, offering $100,000 to anyone who eliminates Dolph. He has met with Justin. He has met with Cornelius, and they appear prepared to carry it out. They are certainly willing to do so. For Cornelius, it’s $50,000 that he can squander on Percocets and ecstasy. For Justin, it’s $50,000 along with the opportunity to rise to fame with CMG, becoming the next renowned Memphis rapper.”
Another individual, Hernandez Goven, is implicated in orchestrating the murder. All three men are facing charges of first-degree murder and other serious offenses. Smith and Govan will also be tried for Dolph’s homicide. Jook was fatally shot outside a Memphis restaurant in January.
